Cleaning My Golf Bag

Posted by admin on 28 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

To introduce my new site theme I thought it would be appropriate to have a golf story.

I’ve recently started a list of things I want to do: hobbies, procrastinated jobs, stuff I want to learn about…you get the picture. Well, first on my list was clean my golf clubs and bag. Everytime I go golfing I say to myself “Craig, you really need to clean these things…and why in the hell does your bag weigh 100 pounds!?!!”

Well, everytime I get done with a round, I have forgotten about this thought and neglect to do so…well not tonight my friends! After making Sarah some homemade soup (she’s sick) I got out the rag and started going to town. Below is the list of items I pulled out of my bag…

14 golf clubs
3 bottles sunscreen
1 pair dirty socks
1 pair regular golf gloves
1 pair winter golf gloves
5 old scorecards
1 hotel key card
1 credit card receipt
2 paper cushion balls (the things that make the bag all puffy when its brand new)
1 winter hat
1 Taylormade r7 425 accessory kit
1 rain cover
1 rainsuit - pants and jacket
1 ball marker
1 divot tool
1 key chain
18 tees
50 golf balls

Yeah, needless to say it was time for a good cleaning. I think I lightened the load by about 15 pounds too. Down here in Florida you don’t need winter gloves or a winter hat, and I took out the rainsuit as well as the trash and 35 of the golf balls… my back thanks me already.

Off to the Doctor

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away…well I’ve been eating apples for a while now and I’m off to the doctor at 2 for an appointment. I need to get my follow-up CT Scan to see if there is additional fluid build-up around my brain…I was supposed to get it 2 months ago, but lost the prescription and forgot to make the appointment. I also need to get checked out for a re-occurence of a pilonoidal cyst that I had removed from my tailbone while in high school… I have a golf ball sized lump on my rear that hurts bad. I can barely sit…

Well I guess that is all for this edition of ”tales of Craig’s medical ailments”

Geography

This is why I got a degree in Geography…well one of the reasons anyway, to help eliminate the portion of the population that is geographically challenged.

While highly entertaining to watch it is also extremely painful for me as well.

Movies and UFC

Posted by admin on 27 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Friday Sarah and I decided to go out to the movies and watch the Bourne Ultimatum. I could watch Bourne movies all day every day, they are so good. Can’t get a good read on this one though, probably the best of the three…but will there be more? In some ways they closed the door on the story, but in other ways they left it wide open. Oh, the suspense.

Saturday I hung out around the house and didn’t do a whole lot during the day. Around 10 we went over to our friends house to watch the Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-view. I really love watching UFC but for some reason whenever I go over to their house to watch it I fall asleep after the first or second fight. Bummer.

Sunday we did two services of children’s ministry at church. After that we did some work around the house and watched a couple nooma’s. Then I had a highly anticipated fantasy football draft with some friends up in Michigan. This was a live offline draft at the golf course I used to work at, for as long as I’ve been playing fantasy football I’ve never been in a live offline draft, they are always done on the computer. It sucked not being able to be at the course with the guys drafting. Instead, my friend Brent called me for my pick everytime I was up. Still cool, but not as cool as being there.

Long weekend coming up, only 5 days to get there!

Pure

Is there anything better and more fun to watch than the Little League World Series?!! Look at the four major Professional sports leagues.

NFL - Michael Vick fiasco
NHL - Gambling mess and lockouts
MLB - Steroids
NBA - Referee gambling scandal

They are a mess, each involved in some kind of huge scandal…its a turn-off as a sports fan.

Which is why watching the Little League World Series is so much fun. These kids play because they love the game, they are gamers and go out and have a good time. I sat down to watch one of the International semi-final games between Venezuela and Curacao yesterday and it was one of the best games I’ve watched.

Tied 1-1 in the 7th (extra inning in LLWS play) and Venezuela scores making it 2-1 going into the bottom half of the inning, Curacao looks like the tank is empty…two outs and nobody on. Suddenly, two runners are on and a batter at the plate with two strikes. Looks like the game is over…not so fast… the pitcher leaves one over the plate and CRACK, the little guy hits a 3-run walk-off homerun to win the game and send his team to the International final.

These kids aren’t worried about endorsements, contracts, or anything else. They just want to play baseball. Its pure. Its fun. Its the way it is supposed to be.
