Hydrocephalus Walk-a-thon

Dear Friends,

As many of you may or may not know I was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus as an infant and underwent two brain surgeries to help treat the condition. I consider myself extremely fortunate not to have required any additional surgeries. However, this is not the case for countless other individuals, both young and old, who are affected by this condition and require treatment throughout their lives.

Hydrocephalus is a condition that affects hundreds of thousands of Americans. It is diagnosed in people of all ages, from infants to elders. One in every 1,000 babies are born with Hydrocephalus. This is caused by having abnormal amounts of fluid in the ventricles of the brain, which causes pressure inside the skull leading to other conditions. Although it is treatable, there is no cure for this chronic condition. The only known treatment is neurosurgical. It requires over 40,000 surgeries per year in the U.S, that’s one every fifteen minutes! In adults, this reversible dementia and gait disorder often goes undiagnosed and untreated.

On September 2, 2007 the Hydrocephalus Association Tampa Bay Affiliate will be participating in a walk-a-thon in Largo Central Park to raise funds to help raise awareness and advocate research for Hydrocephalus. I am contacting you on behalf of this organization and the fundraising team to request your support in the form of a tax-deductible donation.

For those of you not familiar with the Hydrocephalus Association or the Hydrocephalus Association Tampa Bay Affiliate I invite you to visit their websites at www.hydroassoc.org and www.gothydro.org, or contact me and I will be happy to answer any questions you have.  I would greatly appreciate any donation you would be able to make. If this is possible you may make a donation on my fundraising website at: http://www.active.com/donate/TeamTampaBayFL07/craigmcdade If you would rather, you may make checks payable to “Hydrocephalus Association” I thank you for your time and consideration and look forward to any support you might be able to provide.  Thank You,
