Michigan - Day 4

Posted by admin on 11 Jul 2007 | Tagged as: Michigan

I woke up early and started the drive to Central Lake. Went directly to my grandma’s after driving down my favorite road in the world, Torch Lake Drive. Went to the library with my grandma to show her pictures of our new house and the website, then I got beat at Hand and Foot :( I made one boneheaded move at the end of the game and it cost me. Next time I will redeem myself.

Went to Sarah’s to help unload a picnic table and do some other setting up for the party. Then back to my grandmas to wait for my dad and Justin to get into town.

We all headed over to the McPherson’s for the get together and played games and talked.

My dad and grandma left to visit other family in town and Sarah, Justin and I went to Barnes Park to watch the sunset on Lake Michigan, ahhh so beautiful. I hopefully will have some pictures to show you all soon.

And with that the day was already over. We went back to my grandmas for the night and went to bed. A long day of travel ahead of me I needed some rest.

Michigan - Day 3

I woke up early today with a big schedule. I drove over to Grand Rapids to play in a little tournament at Indian Trails with some friends I used to work with. I duffed my way around the course, it wasn’t pretty. I need some practice. However, we wound up shooting the lowest score as a team and even won some cash money.

I drove over and picked my brother up from his house and we went to the mall to exchange some shorts we had gotten. Justin is a little weird so he bought a Cinnamon Toast Crunch shirt…

We left the mall and drove over to Grand Valley, I wanted to go to the bookstore and get some new stuff for my room and also meet up with my buddy Eric to say hey and also get him some money for hosting this incredible site. We get over there, I bought a new shirt and a banner with all the football championships on it, very cool. Then Justin and I walked around campus and got some pictures. GVSU is so beautiful in the summer. Takes me back to the glory days of care free life. Ah, the memories.

Justin and I made plans to play a little frisbee golf back in Muskegon so we drove over to the local course where I promptly got schooled. It is one of the top 3 times I have had hanging out with my brother that I can remember.

We got done with that and headed back to my dads to wait for him to get home. He got home and we headed out to a local bar for a drink or 7. Then over to another bar on Lake Michigan where I froze. 58 degrees outside on the Lake with shorts and a t-shirt on…not a good combo for the kid from Florida. All in all I had a great time just hanging out though, although it was nice to get back into my rental car and turn on the heated seats!  Time is going by too fast. Can’t we just slow it down please?!

Michigan - Day 2

Ah, day 2 in Michigan and I love it here. Today was technically a travel/transition day for me, but I wasn’t leaving my mom and Vics until later. My mom and I got up and around and went back to the mall to return a shirt that she had gotten. After that we went to Quizno’s for a mighty tasty toasted treat. Another nap soon followed. Once I lay on their couch, it is so hard for me to not fall asleep. I woke up and just hung out for a couple hours until we went to Chili’s for a early dinner before I hit the road for Grand Rapids/Muskegon. Dinner was great, I had quesadillas, and I wasn’t even that hungry because of the Quizno’s earlier… After dinner it was time to hit part 2 of the vacation…

It’s about a 2 hour ride into Grand Rapids from my moms house so I tried to go through my phone list of people to call. Most didn’t answer so I was forced to sit there with my thoughts and full concentration on the road (the horror)…

I got into town around 7:15, went to Rivertown Crossings and bought a Tigers and GVSU hat. I need some protection for my recently buzzed head. I left the mall and went and picked Kyle up who was staying right behind it. Then we headed for my dads in Muskegon.

Got here around 8:15ish and had a piece of pizza and spent the rest of the night catching  up with him and everybody else. The new house is nice and we took a stroll down to Lake Michigan, a very nice time.

My brother came over to my dads around midnight all geeked over a concert he went to in GR. He got to go on-stage with the band and then party with them on the tour bus. He was like a 6 year old with a pixie stick…bouncing off the walls excited.

I have put around 350 miles on the rental car now and have only used a half tank of gas, so either it has great gas mileage or a really big tank. At $3.19/gallon I hope its great gas mileage.

When I drove into Grand Rapids last night it was like I had never left, and part of me, I suppose, wishes I never had. My opportunites have been amazing in Florida but there is something about home that really is great. Maybe one day we’ll come back…who knows.

I’m 2 for 2 on good days in Michigan, the weather has been great and I love visiting with all my family. I wish I was here for longer.

Michigan - Day 1

Me and Mom

Sarah and I got into Michigan around 2 this morning and picked up the rental car, a 2008 Mercury Sable with 61 miles on it. The thing is like a Cadillac and I’ve figured out that I want to buy one pretty bad.

We woke up early around 9 and my mom cooked us breakfast, scrambled egg mixed with all kinds of stuff (one of those frozen bags), they are pretty tasty. Sarah’s mom was coming to pick her up so we just sat around waiting for her to get to the house. After she got picked up my mom and I went to the mall and I bought a couple pairs of cargo shorts, its hot in Florida.

The rest of the day was spent sitting on the patio in the back playing games and talking. A great day.

I’m Back

It has been four long years since I signed off craigmcdade.com, and we’ve got a lot of catching up to do…we’ll get to that later. In the meantime, I leave for Michigan tonight and can’t wait to get back home. It will be a five day adventure for me where I will travel the state in a triangle pattern, more time spent on the road than actually visiting anybody. wooo hooo, but I musn’t complain, it is not often I get to go home. I will enjoy every second of it, whether I am driving or not. Sarah however gets to stay an entire two weeks. I don’t think she is going to want to come back.
